Moms. Health. Family.
by mathe | Thursday, February 24th, 2011 at 6:30 pm | Healthy Mommas |I firmly believe that the health of mothers impacts on family life in general. Of course, this does not need any further explanation, does it? A responsible mother should also make it part of her agenda to teach her children the value of health and the importance of eating right.
Moms are the main manpower in the household. Even working moms still have to do up to 90% of the housework. If she does not look after her health and lives and eats carelessly, then guess what happens when she falls ill? Not only will there be absences at work, but there will be disruption in the family routines like school runs and homework hours. Needless to say, Mom’s health is something that is of utmost importance. But who should look after her, then?
Who else, but Mom herself? She looks after the whole family’s health, including her own. It is imperative then that she knows a bit about cooking, nutrition and health in general. Otherwise, how will she decide that vegetables are more nutritious than microwave meals? Or, how will she find enough motivation to set aside her own biases against particular foods like fish or squash or bitter gourd, just so she can prepare them for her kids so that they do not miss out on the nutrients these food provide?
Today, I know a lot of moms who know next to nothing in terms of nutrition, much less raise healthy children. I wonder if nutrition classes should be made available for these moms? Surely, we will see an improvement in health statistics decades from now if we make Moms’ Nutrition Classes a fad in our generation today.
