Family Pictures Through the Years
by mathe | Wednesday, August 5th, 2009 at 2:09 pm | Life as I See it |Two days ago, hubby and I bought this nice chunky gadget that does wonderful, amazing, fantastic things. We have been wanting one for ourselves and luckily, we found one on sale (more than 50% off) in a nearby store. I am talking about a scanner/printer/copier.
One of the reasons we wanted one was to scan these amazing photos of our family when we had a sitting in Milton Keynes with a very good photographer. He was able to capture our personalities and characters just with a few clicks, and then freeze it for us in 11 pictures.
As I was going over our printed pictures from the past that we have no digital copies of, I noticed that for the past six years, we have been having family photos in a studio every three years. So, before I show those pictures taken by this amazing photographer, let me show you how we looked like as a family six years ago…

It was exactly Elijah’s second birthday the day we went to the mall to have this photo taken. It was the year 2003. We were younger then, more relaxed.
Then, three years later, the hubby was about to leave for the UK and so we had a day out a few days before his flight. This one, the photographer got it all wrong. It is because of this photo that I came to appreciate our Milton Keynes photographer even more because he really connected with us. He coaxed us out of our shells to reflect our true personalities even just for those split seconds that he took our pictures.
But this one, the photographer who took it just clicked his life away while his clients struggled to project and emote correctly in front of the camera. The lighting was harsh. He did not give a damn about the pose, the smile. Heck, he did not care how we looked like at all!
Sorry, I got carried away there. But then, if you have a family photo as awful as this one, then you will rant and rave and get carried away too!

Hubby and I were tired. We looked haggard because of all the preparations that we were doing for his departure – shopping, packing, paperworks, etc. The boys, for all they were worth, tried their best to smile. Unfortunately, they ended up looking constipated. For my part, I did my very best to emote and project, being the only rose among the thorns, so to speak. I was supposed to supply the glamour side of things, the feminine look, the softness, the dewy look. Duh!
But this is not what this post is all about. It’s about the gratefulness that I feel when I see our family in photos of long ago. It reminds me that whatever happens, whatever type or calibre of a photographer we sit in front of, we are together, and that is all that matters in the world.
Wait, hang on a minute! No, this post is not about that. It is actually about these…

Hi HotMomma, thanks for the comment and compliments. I am here in the Philippines. Anyway, thanks for sharing your family pictures. I like the way you introduce your family. The kids have grown now and they are handsome. The last 2 family pics look like magkakaptid na lang..hahaha.
katherine! thanks for returning the visit. i was genuinely attracted to your blog’s look. do keep on blogging, ok?
also, thank you for ‘ implying’ that hubby and I still look young-ish, by saying that we all look like siblings with the kids, hehehe!
Para kayong mga artista, ang title the ideal family,(winks). Your sons are growing to be handsome men. Naku manliligaw na ang mga iyan….he he he..magiging lola ka na rin tulad ko. he he he. All the best.
You’re a nurturing mother and it shows in the happy faces of your husband and sons.
