London, One More Time
by mathe | Friday, March 6th, 2009 at 5:48 pm | Life as I See it |We went to London recently, just to give the kids a chance to have fun during their half-term break. It was a wonderful family outing not only for the boys but also for me. I must say that I came to know London from a totally different perspective. I saw its glorious past through the cruise down the river Thames and its sprawling beauty atop the London Eye.
I never thought I’d be back in that city again after our trip there in the summer of 2007. When my hubby told us he planned on bringing us there again last month, I was excited mostly for the boys. Aside from the cruise and the painfully (I’ll tell you why later) slow ride to the top and back to earth again in the Eye, we also included the London Aquarium in our itinerary, which my little boy was so eager to visit. If we only had enough time, he also wanted to see the British Museum, but we didn’t, so that will be for the next trip.
Anyway, I’m glad we did go back because I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful sights and sounds of that famed city. We took the train so it was a new experience for my boys and myself to be going there by other means of transportation than the car. The tube that criss-crossed the city was another matter altogether. It was dizzying because of the volume of passengers that used it, and the maze it all seemed to me. Fortunately, it was not hard to find our way around from one destination to another.
This photo tells you how scared Elijah and myself were when we were in our London Eye flight. We both have a fear of heights and we just clung to each other for the most part of the flight. It was unbelievably high once you reach the very top and I could almost feel my breath being sucked out of my lungs just looking at the distance between me and the ground.
But I managed to get up from the bench in the middle of the capsule just to have my photo taken with the Houses of Parliament as background. I congratulated myself for being brave enough to stand up, really.
More photos on this memorable trip later. Meanwhile, let me all wish you a happy and wonderful weekend!
