Hosiery by Trickery

Have you ever been tricked by a company before? How did you feel?

Recently, I signed up to receive a pair of hosiery offered by a company for free. It was part of their promotion, I supposed. There was no mention of any purchase to be made as far as my understanding of the promo materials went.

Being one who never lets a good opportunity pass, I responded by submitting my name and address. True enough, after a few days, my free pair of hosiery arrived by post. I need a lot of these kinds of body covering just to help me ward off the cold. Desperate for anything, in fact.

Then, just before Christmas, I received another pack from the same company containing three different kinds of hosiery/socks. Enclosed was my statement of account amounting to a few pounds to pay for these items. I was surprised because after signing up in their promotion, I did not order anything else. How sure are they that I wanted these particular items, more so three different kinds?

I was dismayed because I felt like I was deceived. Do they have to resort to such tactics to get the public to buy their items? I knew in business, there is no such thing as a free lunch, but their promotion was so direct I thought there was no catch at all.

Well, for one I did not find their sample product very spectacular. But even if I had, I still would not want to be tricked to buy more from them. So, I returned the items and even had to pay for postage and stamps.

Another lesson learned.

    Yes Mathe,

That’s stealing for me, no, that’s dishonesty. deceit. I dislike too people who don’t come upfront with their agenda. It some sort of dishonesty for me.

Others call it marketing strategy, but it is still dishonesty as the person does not know the whole story.

But who am I to judge? this is just my own opinion. take care Mathe.
