Making Music

Thursday morning last week, I and the hubby went to a carboot sale where we planned to find treasures for dirt cheap prices. The kids were in school and my work would not start until midday so we had a few hours to go around the field where they held the sale. I found a few useful items which I am just so happy about. I have a quick eye for not only practical but quality items, something the hubby admires about me when he brings me to such places. This comes up handy when I need to find an item that is quite expensive if bought brand new.

But I have to give it to him for spotting this item that morning:

For only a few quid, this is really a steal. An elderly couple with a nice SUV sold this to him. They are now downsizing and all the unnecessary stuff have to go. Lucky us we spotted it on time. My hubby always looks at the vehicle or car of the seller before he considers looking at the items on sale. To him, the quality of the owner’s car is an indicator of the quality of the items. So far, this theory has held up. This Yamaha Portatone still comes with the original user’s manual and the stand. It is practically in mint condition even if it is quite old already.

The hubby lost no time in trying it out even if he does not know how to play keyboards. Thankfully, we have those earphones so that it was just him listening to his own “music”. The boys enjoyed tinkering with it at first but now, it sits all by its lonesome – no one seems to want to make music with it anymore. Or, maybe because the hubby is working straight days even through weekends, that’s why he finds no time to sit down to play with it.

My older son is also learning how to play the keyboard in school so I hope he will find this useful. Otherwise, it will just gather dust (which reminds me, I need to cover it with a spare table cloth) in the corner.
